Monday 9 July 2012

Wow, it's been a while since I've visited here and written anything! What can I say? I've been busy, or is it lazy? Either way, the days seem to have passed by in a hurry.
I'm on holidays from work now, 'til the 25th. On Saturday a friend, her 2 kids and I went to The Mortlach Saskatoon Berry festival. It was fun. Lots of people there. They sure put on a nice event for such a small town. We missed the parade by just a few minutes. There was face painting, a petting zoo, many vendors selling a very wide variety of goods (jewelry, household, clothing, food, etc) This is the first time I've attended, usually I'm working on that Saturday. I bought some locally produced honey, 3 pairs of bamboo snow-dyed socks, some dark chocolate covered sour cherries (also local) and some muffins (Mine are better, sorry to the chef.) It was a very hot day, temps lately are in the low 30's, Saturday was no exception. Sure glad for air-conditioning in the car. We took the grid roads back to town. I showed Theresa some areas where we hike and go Saskatoon picking. And then Saturday evening, hubby and I went to The Webster's and hung out with them on their deck. It was a great 1st day of my holidays.
So this is my 3rd day off and I don't really know what I'm going to get accomplished today. I know there's always housework, but I really don't feel like doing that. I could haul out my easel and paint, but even that sounds like too much work too. I will probably end up outside tending to my 'Greens'. I did plant flowers this year. OMG, you can practically see them growing, some are very large already. My sunflowers are taller than me.The tomatoes are walnut size and lots of them. Buster-Boo has now decided that the entire yard is his toilet, so I must be careful when I'm doing work out there! He used to only go in one area, but ever since the raccoon has been around, I guess he feels the need to mark the entire yard. Mostly all was planted in containers, which in this hot weather must be watered twice a day, so that takes a half hour each time. Dead-heading alone takes 10-15 minutes, but it so worth it if you want those blooms to keep coming. My gourd plants are quite small, not sure if I'll get a crop from those. There are lots of male flowers on the pumpkin, but no female ones yet. Soon, I hope, our summer's going by way to quickly!
And I guess if I'm going to get this work done, I'd best get at it before it gets too hot. Supposed to be 31 Celsius this afternoon. I'll take a few photos for my next post.
